🎯 June Spanish Challenge Idea: The “Fluency Stopper”

Hola, mi gente. I want to share an idea for a challenge we could do together next month—June!
This came from a YouTuber who gave a great tip for improving spoken fluency in another language. The idea is simple but powerful:
🎤 Start talking out loud in Spanish about any topic—your family, the weather, your plans, whatever.
💬 The moment you get stuck—where your fluency stops—pause and notice what tripped you up.
📝 Write it down. That moment becomes your mini-lesson for the day.
I loved this because it’s super personal, super relevant, and highlights the exact areas where you need help.
🔄 Here’s how it could work as a group challenge:
  • Record yourself using something like Vocaroo.
  • Start in English, briefly say:
“Hi, I’m doing the June Fluency Stopper Challenge. Today I’m going to talk about ___.”
  • Switch to Spanish and talk until you hit a bump.
  • Stop and say what you were trying to say but couldn’t.
  • Post your audio, and, after you’ve researched how to say what you wanted to say, share what the correct Spanish expression is.
💡 Bonus: If you’re using flashcards or a word list, add the tricky phrase to it—build up your personal fluency bank day by day.
If we all do this together, we’ll not only build our own fluency, but also learn from each other’s gaps and discoveries. Maybe you’ll hear someone get stuck and realize you don’t know how to say that either—or feel great knowing you do.
By the end of June, you’d have 30 little obstacles cleared from your road to fluency. That’s a pretty good month’s work.

Here's a demo recording using Vocaroo

The video below describes the technology to use but please note that the style of challenge that it describes is one that we did last year where we recorded a minute or two of Spanish. This one (June 2025) is different – you speak for as long as you can without hitting a roadblock and the moment you do that you stop and review. See the information above or listen to my Vocaroo recording (above) for an example.
